The world renowned British conductor, Professor Colin Metters will return to Vietnam this November for a special concert to celebrate 40 years of Vietnam – UK diplomatic relations. He will be accompanied by Guy Johnston, a British cellist who won the 2000 BBC Young Musician of the Year.

The concerts will be on 21 and 22 November at the Hanoi Opera House (No.1 Trang Tien Street). The programme will feature the Roman Carnival Overture by Hector Berlioz, Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No 5.

Ninety musicians of the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra (VNSO) also joined the repertoire while the young talented Vietnamese conductor Tran Nhat Minh from the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet, Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) will be the Assistant Conductor to Colin Metters.

Colin Metters was invited to Vietnam for the first time 16 years ago by the British Council to begin a training project for the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra. It became one of the most successful and longest UK – Vietnam cultural partnerships.

Colin Metters was awarded the Cultural Activists Medal by Vietnamese government in 1999 for his services to Vietnamese culture. His work in Vietnam was even featured in a BBC documentary called Harmony in Hanoi, directed by Anthony Fabian in 2003.

Prices vary from 200.000 to 500.000 Vietnam Dong; students who can produce a valid Student’s ID can enjoy a discounted price of 100.000 dong (limited tickets).
