Made in Vietnam-Astrid

Opening: Sat 07 Dec, 6 pm
Exhibition: 07 – 14 Dec 2013
9A4 M Studio

From the organizer:

Being passionate about food and driven by the idea of preservation of cultural traditions, Astrid would like to celebrate the diversity and richness of Vietnamese cooking through photography and print.

However, her approach is not photographing dishes when or after they are prepared; she is seeking for different ways of describing a recipe. Believing that nature is the most beautiful ‘designer’ when it comes to fruit and vegetable, Astrid is examining the different ingredients of a dish and adds them together to create new objects.

Part two of this exhibition is an acknowledgement to those who are directly involved in the production chain of food. We often forget how labor intensive it is to produce what we eat. Especially in the Western world the connection between food and nature seems to get lost. Therefore Astrid visited small-scale farmers and family run production businesses. She took portraits of people with their products in order to reestablish a relationship with the origin of food provisions.

With this project Astrid aims to explore the unknown and to stimulate the viewer’s senses. When it comes to eating, taste, smell, touch and sight are very closely linked and after visiting this exhibition, perhaps you will look at food differently thereafter…

The exhibition was also presented in Hue last month.
