Art Stage Singapore 2014
January 16 – 19, 2014
Marina Sands Bay, Singapore

From Cuc Gallery:

CUC Gallery is pleased to announce its participation at Art Stage Singapore 2014 from January 15 to January 19 2014, presenting an exceptional selection of works by Nguyen Trung, Do Hoang Tuong, Nguyen Son, Ly Tran Quynh Giang and Duong Thuy Lieu. This is the first time for a Vietnamese contemporary gallery to participate in such a prestigious art fair.

Art Stage Singapore is founded by Lorenzo Rudolf, former Director of Art Basel, and held annually at the beautiful Marina Sands Bay. The fair consists of leading galleries around the world and with a focus on Asian contemporary art. Art Stage attracts 40.000 visitors last year with hundreds of artists around the world.

1. Nguyen Trung:

Nguyen Trung, one of the most prominent painters in Vietnam – if not the best- creates a mysterious sense of direction on his canvases. In front of his large paintings, one does not know where to begin from, how to read a fabulous cascade of signs, codes and arrows.

2. Do Hoang Tuong:

The loss is a word that describes the losing of a beloved person or the destroying of a country. Or the losing of an ideal. In the tableaux by Do Hoang Tuong, the body, gesture, expression, form and colour are displaced. This represents the loss of some abstraction, which has taken the place of one, a complete one, that is to say the liberty, the country, the land of one’s own.

3. Nguyen Son:

Nguyen Son Nine 18, 2013, 65 x 150 cm cm, Ink on “Xuyen chi” paper
Nguyen Son Nine 18, 2013, 65 x 150 cm cm, Ink on “Xuyen chi” paper

To Nguyen Son, the surface of the artwork is the universe and the recurrent action of painting his forms -a kind of amoebas cells, or leaves- an expression of a personal discipline. Painted with ink in a minimal expression, these odd entities seem to be in a battle against the void. Like a cruel act of beauty. But they are subtle and soft, suggesting a return to the sensibility and to our inner voice.

4. Ly Tran Quynh Giang:

Ly Tran Quynh Giang Where they head to 1, 2013, 120 x 150 cm, Oil on canvas

Ly Tran Quynh Giang paints a multiply demysthicising series of images that demand the viewers a radical shift in their own understanding of who they really are, what their positions are in relation to the picturing of the individual pain. That is the manifestation of pain in contemporary societies.

5. Duong Thuy Lieu:

Duong Thuy Lieu has focused on a single painting all the imaginative possibilities of the artist to break free from the daily routines or social boundaries.
