Then Cafe – an Arts Destination in Hue

Then Cafe located at 63 Le Trung Dinh (Hue) was established by artist Tran Tuan(*) in February 2012. It is a compound coffee shop, gallery and co-working space for artists, architects and musicians in Hue. With the vision of creating an art and culture hub for young people in the city, the artist has organized many art activities such as exhibitions for young artists, art talks, music nights and handmade markets. After 2 years, Then Cafe has become a familiar meeting spot for artists, architects, and musicians, and a well-known place among young generation in town.

Workshop, artist talks:

Then Cafe supports various contemporary art events in town and has hosted art talks with Khai Hori (Singapore), Tran Luong (Hanoi), and Funny Franziska (Germany).

Exhibitions and open studios:

Then Cafe has organized successfully a photography exhibition for Vietnamese American photographer Huynh Viet Hy, group exhibition for young artists in Hue, and solo exhibition for artist Nguyen Van He as well as open studios for Nguyen Van He, Nguyen An, Pham Anh, architects Pham Huy Hieu and Le Thai Ha and May Band music group.

Furthermore, Then Cafe also hosts other activities such as acoustic music nights, Handmade market, etc.

(*) Artist Tran Tuan, owner of Then Cafe, was born and raised in Hue and graduated from Hue Fine Arts University. His installation artwork “Forefinger” has been displayed in Singapore Biennale this year.
