Siri Torjesen will talk briefly about opera in Europe, share her experience as an opera singer and perform with Vietnamese pianist Thuyen Ha.
Siri Torjesen has a broad international career, being equally at home in both the classical and contemporary repertoire. Her international debut came in 1990, and since then she has performed contemporary music by leading composers across Europe, and made numerous broadcasts in both radio and television, among which one can mention the World Premieres of works by Nordheim and Matsudaira at the Nobel Peace Prize concert in 1996, with the Oslo Philharmonic conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy.
She has recorded all of Arne Nordheim’s chamber music and Fartein Valen’s vocal music, in addition to numerous other recordings. Two of her recordings won the Norwegian Grammy, in 2010 and 2011. Siri Torjesen was voted “Performer of the Year” by the Norwegian Composers’ League in 1996, and received the 2000 Performing Artists´ Prize from the City of Oslo.
