KVT – Pham Luc Shimmers and Shines
KVT is mightily impressed
The most vibrant stuff in town last week (and until tomorrow) is/was on the bottom floor of the Artists’ Association @ 16 Ngo Quyen where 71 year old artist Pham Luc had some really colorful and powerful paintings and lacquers that represent his output since he started painting
I stumbled across the exhibition on my way to buy some tickets to a chamber music concert at L’Espace and because their parking lot was overflowing I was able to squeeze my little Honda into a space on the corner of Ngo Quyen and Trang Tien….and voila! There it was… Pham Luc’s jammed packed exhibition which beats -by a country mile- a host of the visual art I’ve seen around town this year- and funnily enough, due to thoughtful use of the tight space, the jam packing has worked a treat.
My job as an opinionista has been made a breeze due to an excellent review of his retrospective exhibition at the Art Museum in May by Ilza Burchet which sums up his work far more eloquently than I could hope to do.
If I read the sign correctly all of the work on show is for sale at 30 000 000 VND per piece and is worth every Dong
If you are considering purchasing of a piece of art by a Vietnamese painter then the work of this maestro is worth more than a quick look
Kiem Van Tim is a keen observer of life in general and the Hanoi cultural scene in particular and offers some of these observations to the Grapevine. KVT insists that these observations and opinion pieces are not critical reviews. Please see our Comment Guidelines / Moderation Policy and add your thoughts in the comment field below. |
