Exhibition “The Cabinet”
Exhibition: 10 – 31 Mar 2015, 8 am – 5 pm
Vietnam University of Fine Arts
From the organizer:
You are invited to exhibition “The Cabinet”, displaying artifacts and stories of Vietnamese gays, lesbians, bisexual people and transgenders.
In recent years, LGBT communities (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) have increasingly attracted concern and interest from society, especially when it comes to their desires to live with and get married to their intimate and loved ones; to be allowed to have sex reassignment; to not be discriminated against and violated; and to get access to medical, social and legal support and services.
From enduring, blaming fate, and wearing “masks” to live, they have overcome their own struggles to survive reality and make people around them acknowledge and accept their humanity. What the LGBT achieved makes them, their relatives and friends proud.
Nearly 80 stories and artifacts are presented in four themes in the display: identity, sorrow, pride, and sharing. The cabinet introduces true stories from the insiders that help the public better understand what they have been going through.
“The Cabinet” is the outcome from the capacity-building project on community-based exhibition supported by UNESCO, the Swedish Institute, museums and NGOs in Vietnam and Sweden.
Free entrance.
