Vietnamese Artists in “Building Histories” Exhibition in Myanmar

Dinh Q Le-Building Histories

Exhibition: 01 – 15 Mar 2015
Goethe Institut Yangon

From the artists:

Dinh Q.Le and Bui Cong Khanh participate in “Building Histories” exhibition curated by Iola Lenzi in Myanmar.

“Nine artists from Southeast Asia – five from Myanmar and four from neighboring countries have been invited to use the rooms of the Villa for their works decoding and interpreting the historical meaning of the iconic edifice.

Internationally acknowledged practitioners, including Vasan Sitthiket from Thailand, Dinh Q. Le and Bui Cong Khanh from Vietnam, and Cambodia’s Srey Bandaul, will work together with the distinguished Myanmar artists Chaw Ei Thein, the duo Wah Nu and Tun Win Aung, Yadanar Win, and Wai Mar Nyunt. Absorbing the atmosphere of the Villa, the site-specific commissioned pieces, including installations, giant wood-block prints, an interactive cinematographic production, and a live dramatic performance articulate the critical place of history in the present and future, while also creating active dialogue with individual spaces and rooms in the Villa. Thus building histories, in uniting artists from Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia, through the creative process of art-making and expressive collaboration, takes on the region’s difficult past to build a new present.”
