From L’Espace:
Hát chèo is a form of Vietnamese light opera, born in the 10th century and developed in the rural areas of the Red River’s delta. With a woman as the main character, this operetta focuses on the symbolic gesture that is characteristic of the Asian theatre, with songs, lullabies and rhythms where lyrism and pamphlet are combined.
In counterpoint to this special lyric art, L’Espace proposes an exhibition of pictures made for the piece Vân Dại (Vân the Mad) on rice paper, by painter Ly Truc Son, who also drew the scenery of this light opera.
