From the organizer:
Lang’s house – Dream of Rebirth is a crowd-funding campaign to rebuild the ancient Lang house, the unique house of the Muong’s Land Lord in Hoa Binh, Vietnam. The house was burned down by tourists at the end of 2013.
Until now, there have been big concerns over the fire on 24 October 2013 at The Muong’s Cultural Museum. It was careless of a tourist group to ignite the flame, destroyed an over-100-year-old Lang house, and hundreds of antiquities. To those who have spent a lot of time and effort establishing and managing the museum, it is such a huge loss. The destroyed area of Lang house had remained intact for investigation and evaluation of damage until one day when the authority informed that they would temporarily stop investigating the case. During that time, we were awaiting for support and assistance from local authorities and culture departments in restoring the damaged parts.
One year after the fire, considerable effort and work has being put in. Looking at the ashes, and charred remains, we, who built and took care of the museum, was strongly driven with new inspiration and design. We decided that we would continue to tell a story about the new journey of Lang House: a story of a rebirth. Thanks to the data & blueprints kept in the museum, and the sharing of some Muong workers installing Lang House in 2007, we will be able to restore the house with all original with some remained poles and wooden floor.
We can almost see the dream that we are dreaming. Our artists and friends are eagerly preparing for some arts events, which are going to take place in Hanoi from beginning of 2015. The events, along with a series of activities related to ticket selling, fundraising auction, seminars, and open calls in social media are within the contribution plan. Ideas are given, and then implemented by our beloved artists.
It is a Fashion, Painting and Installation exhibition will be held at Module 7 art space, Hanoi, at the beginning of May 2015.
It is a Photography exhibition of an artist group at Vietnam Fine Arts Museum in June 2015.
It is a big Art Exhibition and Auction of more than 80 works by 50 artists in Vietnam at the end of 2015.
Moreover, for raising voice and hands from society, we are holding an online crowd-funding on the official pages of the Muong’s Cultural Museum.
All artworks by artists contributed into the fund for rebuilding the Lang’s house will be displayed in this exhibition. These are valuable contributions by artist’s creations and labors, for a dream to rebuild a cultural heritage. We truly appreciate these kindness and supports. To be honest, the restoration of Lang House aims at not only the museum and those being there, but also the public. Voice could be raised, and confidence could be added to preserve and promote the values of our national culture.
