KVT’s December Diary …13th… Going for Real @ the Art Museum
GUISES OF REALITY
Lots of fun at the Art Museum when artist Le The Anh played a game with a masterpiece by Matisse and won by allowing a guest and a cream cupcake to enter the frame
And on another wall, played extra large in Van Gogh’s bedroom with another visitor ..and scored another hit
I can imagine the artist playing delightfully similar silly buggars with nudes in rooms by other famous artists and filling a gallery with appreciative smiles
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
13 Realist artists with differing approaches to the genre have rather nicely filled up the walls of two galleries with an exhibition that will please a lot of viewers
A photo real artist who gets to the nitty gritty is Pham Binh Chuong with canvasses that – according to the purist definition of realism in art – attempt to represent subject matter truthfully, without artificiality and avoiding artistic conventions, implausible, exotic and supernatural elements.
While Nguyen Le Tan gave the approach a very poignant rural flavor that won me over
And Quang Tam had another rural portrait
The farmer above may feel at home in the dark, atmospheric interiors by Ngo Xuan Chinh
Artist Vu Ngoc Binh tilted a hat towards social realism and got, what in my opinion, is the outrageous hit of the show with a posed grouping that might even please famous photographer Jeff Wall
Romantic realism got a leg in with two canvasses by Nguyen Van Bay that, to me, are pretty nice examples of ironic kitsch in the Millais tradition
Adventures into anime, watercolor and surrealism rounded off an exhibition which, although short lived in the free entry gallery at the museum (closes on the 16th), is proving to be a draw card
NOTE TO ARTISTS: my personal viewing notes got a bit mixed up when I dropped them so I hope that the art works are ascribed to the correct people
