Open Call for Media and Sound Artists, and anyone interested:

We are the Klangkollektiv Alter Fritz, an interdisciplinary artists’ group from Karlsruhe, Germany, with different backgrounds in media art, scenography and exhibition design, all connected by sound art and radio play. Together with Vietnamese artists and musicians, we would like to develop a sound piece that will be performed in Hue and Hanoi. Our interest lies in the exchange of knowledge about both our contemporary cultures and in meeting young artists. Our incentive arises from the wish to research traditional instruments and seek contemporary approaches.

This November, we tried our “Music Snack Car” concept already during the ARD Radio Play Days at ZKM Karlsruhe. We hope to open up a space for exchange, whether through art, music or food. Before we toured Japan in 2012 performing the scenic radio play Ein Gespenst (A Ghost). While we arrived in Japan with a finished piece, during the workshop we would like to meet local artists and musicians for an original exchange of practices. Our theme for the work is “Heimat” in the widest sense. ‘Heimat’ is a specific German word that cannot be translated properly into english but it is connected to home and homeliness.

During the last weeks we have been collecting sounds and ideas concerning this subject and started to compose individual pieces for presentation. The sound pieces themselves can contain live sound as well as recorded material, a mixture of sound art and traditional music, which arises from the collective workshop.

We will open the workshop with an evening of public screening of our previous pieces.

We will start with a short introduction to our concept and method on the theme “Home”. Artists and musicians are invited to contribute their own ideas, materials like sounds, sound pieces, field recordings, edits,… – something they prepared beforehand or some short pieces to be developed on Tuesday. Then there will be time to finalize the work until the performance on Friday or Saturday, the venue will be announced later.
