Yda Cinema Club in Paris will be presenting 3 films by Vietnamese directors Nguyen Trinh Thi, Phan Dang Di and Pham Ngoc Lan on April 16.
1. IN SMOKE AND CLOUDS – LETTERS FROM PANDURANGA (Trong khoi va may)

– A filmic essay by Nguyen Thi Trinh, 2015, 37 mins with French subtitles
– Co-production: Jeu de Paume Museum of Contemporary Art in Bordeaux, National Federation of graphic and plastic arts, Danish Fund of cultural exchanges (CDEF)
– The film won in the category of Best Emerging Artist Using Digital/Video of the 2016 Prudential Eye Awards.
As a spiritual center of the ancient Champa kingdom and future site of the first two nuclear power plants in Viet Nam, Panduranga – Cham name of Phan Rang – is the starting point of a match between a man and a woman, both are filmmakers, who question their film work, historical reflection and ethnographic and cultural policies.
2. WHEN I AM 20 (Khi toi 20)
– A work of fiction by Phan Dang Di, 2006, 20 mins with French subtitles
– Scenario: Phan Thi Vang Anh and Phan Dang Di
– The film was screened at the Short Film Competition at the Venice Film Festival 2008
A young couple in love lives in a room so low that they cannot stand up. The girl, who works as a prostitute to support her family, often talks to her lover about her clients. Until her lover asks her to take on the journey that she has always dreamed of, an invitation that makes her cancel an appointment with a client…
3. ANOTHER CITY (Mot thanh pho khac)
– A cinematic essay by Pham Ngoc Lan, 2016, 25 mins with French subtitles
– The film was screened at the Berlinale Short Films Competition 2016
When the urban landscape shapes the human relations: a mature woman, a bride and a group of young people seek proximity in the anonymity of the big city.
