From the organizer:
Come to join a series of applied theater workshops conducted by the Community Theatre of Greensboro (CTG). The events’ purpose is to strengthen participants’ skills in using theatre games, physical relaxation exercises and improvisation as tools in working with groups, people with special needs and the community.
Founded in 1949, the Community Theatre of Greensboro (CTG), located in Greensboro, North Carolina, is the oldest Arts organization in Guilford County with the mission: Bringing the diverse community together to learn about, experience, and celebrate the joys of theatre.
1. Theater in working with people with special needs
9.30am – 11.30am, 18th May 2016
Workshop “Theater in working with special need people” is comprised of practical activities: There will be activities, physical, vocal and mental exercises, theatre games, interactive discussion, responses to activities, question and answer time.
The Community Theatre of Greensboro has been very successful in welcoming, accommodating and including the community with special needs in their youth and adult productions, workshops and activities. Its yearly two week workshop, Onstage and Inclusive, takes nearly 40 actors of all ages and all disabilities on an incredible journey of personal growth, developing new life skills, getting in touch with their artistic talents and presenting a show to the community that is entertaining, moving and a great advocacy piece for the population with special needs!
Participants: art-based facilitators, artists working with communities, art therapists, and others who have a concern and interest in how to further engage and enrich the lives of our population with special needs through theatre arts.
2. Building Teams Through Theatre This program is canceled.
7pm – 9.30pm, 24th May 2016
Used by businesses, corporations and local organizations, Executive Director of CTG, Mitchel Sommers will work with you on exercises that help engage your minds and bodies, while encouraging you to think on your feet and be comfortable in your own skin. By participating in a variety of exercises that force you to “break out of your box”, you will become a better worker, leader, community member and learn to excel at the work place with the skills you will acquire in public speaking, team work and confidence!
Participants: Human resources managers, art-based facilitators, artists working with communities, art therapists, and others with interest and concern.
3. Improvisation theater This program is canceled.
2pm – 5pm, 29th May 2016
As an ensemble we will seek a greater self-awareness while discarding self-consciousness through theatre games, physical relaxation exercises and improvisation. We will get better in touch with ourselves, with our “instrument” and develop skills in vocal performance and movement/dance, while getting better in tune with our senses. We will strive for self-discipline. We will seek greater vulnerability while learning to trust in ourselves and trust in others. We will seek a greater openness to all the stimuli of the world around us and embrace the art of collaboration among us. We will try to enhance our powers of listening and observation. All of this will be accomplished through fun, hard work and the avenues of self-expression that only theatre can provide!
Participants: Actors, artists, comedians, all others with interest.
Participation fee (supported): 100.000VND/person/event
