Hanoi – the capital city of Vietnam has its proud 1000-year-old history and tradition. The music born here shares the richness as the city’s history itself: diversified and original.

“Music Story of the Old Quarter” is a monthly music shows which is objected to introduce generally to the world the evolution of the city of Hanoi’s music, from past to present.

The shows portrait the city’s music history through traditional vocal techniques, rhythms and beats combined with contemporary installation arts. The performances are delivered by the top class singers and musicians.

Through the shows, we hope to successfully communicate the core values of Hanoi’s culture, history and humans to the audiences, both Vietnamese natives and foreign friends.

About the program:

“Silk Music” paves the way for us to the Vietnamese traditional music which will include the exhibition and music performance of ancient musical instruments with silk strings. The exhibition shows fundamental musical instruments of five traditional music genres (Tuồng, Chèo, Ca Trù, Xẩm, Chầu Văn) including some ancient musical instruments with natural silk strings revived by the People’s Artist Xuan Hoach under the cultural project “Silk sings” (“Đàn hát Tiếng Tơ”) of Dong Kinh Co Nhac group, funded by Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development SDC.

This is a non-profit program. Donations are greatly welcome.
