From Goethe Institut:

The German Film Festival is bringing new German-language film highlights to Vietnam this September, sure to thrill audiences with a versatile program in addition to an exciting special guest from Germany. The Goethe-Institut opens the festival on the 8th of September 2016 in Vietnam’s capital. A selection of the newest and most popular films from Germany will be shown in Hanoi, Haiphong, Da Nang, Hue and HCMC. In its 7th annual year, the festival will showcase the remarkable dynamism and creativity of the German film industry, genres ranging from drama to adventure and comedy.

We proudly present in more than 40 screenings, in original German language with Vietnamese and English subtitles or voice-over, selected films which have been particularly successful in cinemas around the world as well as at the Berlin Film Festival and other festivals. All films and their awards can be found in our brochure and on the website.

As our special guest we will welcome the director, screenwriter and film producer Norbert Lechner, who will present his award-winning film “Fortune Favors the Brave” in Hanoi and HCMC, together with the renowned Vietnamese actors who worked on this film in Germany.

In 2016, German films explore what makes us human as they capture their protagonist’s life-changing decisions with breathtaking, unprecedented authenticity, and proof that courage is not a matter of age or gender. This year’s German Film Festival in Vietnam offers the audience a selection of eight film highlights from renowned directors and with famous German actors.

The Festival Films:

Our opening film Victoria is an adrenaline-fuelled and emotionally charged film that was shot in just one camera setting, without any cuts, thus allowing the viewers to follow the story about a dramatic night in Berlin in real time.

One Breath is an intense and intimate drama about two mothers on the edge, but also a sensitive study about the life prospects in Europe that are increasingly drifting apart.

From the same director, Christian Zübert, comes the drama/road movie Tour de Force — a humorous and deeply sad story about self-determined death. Hannes is terminally ill and has decided to end his life on his own terms. Until it’s time to say goodbye, he wants to fully enjoy and celebrate life from the heart with his friends.

11-year-old Tilda is outraged when her parents decide to move her beloved Grandfather to a retirement home — just because he has a Head Full of Honey, or in other words: Alzheimer’s disease. So she takes him on one last adventure that turns the whole family upside down.

Being cautious and clumsy, Daniel hasn’t been very successful with women so far. When he meets the girl of his dreams, he fears she will turn away from him. So Daniel decides to transform from wimp to Macho Man

Not only computer nerds will love the adventure film Offline – Are You Ready for the Next Level? The 17-year-old gamer Jan gets ready for the biggest quest of his life – in the real world! In search of his hacked digital identity, reality and computer game intermingle. (No trailer available).

A big city, a villain and two unlikely friends who team up to restore order – Rico, Oskar and the Deeper Shadows has all that it takes to make an exciting adventure film for the whole family. The film is based on the awardwinning bestseller by Andreas Steinhöfel that is – thanks to translation grants by the Goethe-Institut – also known to Vietnamese readers.

Our young audiences can also look forward to Fortune Favors the Brave: when her mother suddenly has to leave Germany for Vietnam, 11-year-old Linh is not only responsible for her little sister Tien but also for her mother’s Vietnamese diner. Of course, no one is supposed to find out, especially not child protective services. As if that wasn’t enough, the self-proclaimed spy Pauline from across the street discloses her secret…

The German Film Festival 2016 promises a great selection of films with many exciting, moving and inspiring moments for film lovers and for the whole family.

Please also take part in our film quiz! Answer questions about the films which will be screened at the festival and with a bit of luck you can win amazing prizes. For the quiz and more information on the complete schedule in all cities visit our Website.
