HCMC – Toyota Classics 2016

Toyota Motor Asia Pacific and Toyota Motor Vietnam (TMV) in cooperation with Vietnam Performing Arts Centre (Department of Performing Arts – Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) officially introduces that the Toyota Classics 2016 will be held at 20:00, Nov 11th 2016 at Ho Chi Minh Municipal Theatre. This is the 19th Toyota Classics is organized in Vietnam and marks the 27th anniversary of “Music that moves lives” in the Asia Pacific region.

This year, Toyota Classics 2016 will feature the Baltic Neopolis Orchestra – a very famous and unique orchestra from Poland and was crowned with the Polish Grammy for Best Music Album of the Year in 2015; under the baton of the outstanding conductor-violinist Vasko Vassilev. With the theme “Opera with a twist” and music arranged by Singapore-born pianist and composer Pamela Tan Nicholson, the program is promised to bring Vietnamese audiences new emotion and unforgettable experience when enjoying a modern twist on classical opera of favorite songs such as The Story of Turandot, The Story of Butterfly, The Story of Carmen and Drink and Sing.

Another highlight of Toyota Classics will be a special song named “ASEAN harmony” presented by a youth choir. This song was commissioned for Toyota Classics 2016 and composed by Pamela Tan Nicholson to celebrate the shared vision of the ten member states of ASEAN.

Especially, Toyota Classics 2016 has the 1st time participation of young, talented singer Tung Duong – champion of “Morning Star” TV music contest in 2004 and owners of numerous awards, namely the third prize of Hanoi Music Contest for Young Singers in 1999, third prize and first prize of Hanoi Music Contest for Talented Singers in 2001 and 2003, respectively. He is promised to continue bringing an impressive emotional concert night to music lovers.

This year, Toyota Classics 2016 toured nine ASEAN countries, which include Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, The Philippines and Vietnam during 22nd Oct – 11th Nov 2016.

“Toyota Classics stands out among Toyota’s over 200 corporate social responsibility programmes in Asia, delighting audiences of all ages, raising funds for local charities and supporting young musicians with performance and master classes taught by Toyota Classics musicians. With the theme, “Music that Moves Lives”, Toyota Classics aims to touch the lives of people both within and beyond the concert hall,” said Hiroyuki Fukui, President, Toyota Motor Asia Pacific Pte Ltd.

As one of meaningful corporate social contribution activities of Toyota in Asia – Pacific region, this year, Toyota Classics marks 27-year journey of “Music that moves life” across the Asia – Pacific region, contributing to enhance cultural exchange and helping to promote classical music in these countries. Until now, 191 concerts have been held, attracted participation of hundreds of thousand audiences with approximately $8.7 million donated for charitable activities in the region. In Vietnam, since 2009, all the ticket proceeds are used for “Toyota Scholarship for Vietnam Young Music Talents” program.
