Music Night “Crossings”
Thu 10 Nov 2016, 7.30 pm
V-Art Club
Level 3rd IPH Shopping Centre
241 Xuan Thuy Street, Hanoi
From the organizer:
Come to music night “Crossings” and enjoy compositions played by violin solo and violin-piano duo.
Pamela Foard, an American violinist, and Chu Hai Ly, a Vietnamese pianist, will perform Maurice Ravel’s “Habanera”, with interpretive dancing, and Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s “Marietta’s Song” from his opera “Die tote Stadt” to accompany live drawing by Hoa Thu Hong.
Ms. Foard will also perform Tango Etudes 3-5 for solo violin by Astor Piazzolla, accompanied by two dancers interpreting the tangos.
Hoa Thu Hong’s performance is entitled “Art in a World of Stories, Computer Games, and Life Itself”. A mixture of video art and Hong’s live drawing is an introduction to this talented Vietnamese artist.
The intersection of fine art drawing with the probing of human thought, behavior and decisions is an age-old concern of artists. Miss Hong inserts herself into the contemporary context of this tradition with comic book storylines that are provocative as much by the drawn illustrations as they are by their text.
In the live section of her presentation, violin and piano music will accompany Hong with Korngold’s “Marietta’s Song”. The video on each end of the live presentation is created by Larry D’Attilio to provide a further insight to Ms. Hong’s art processes and philosophy. Unmistakably, Hong’s talents are indications of what we all can expect from more and more inspired young Vietnamese like her.
Mr. D’Attilio’s art exhibit project, “The New Global Women”, features large canvas photo montages of young Vietnamese women facing difficult life choices. The Vietnamese project started in 2009 and currently has more than thirty images of women in Vietnam. The abstract photos are combined with other visual records of the women’s typical surroundings and encounters in life. Phases of this project have been shown in the U.S. In Vietnam since 2010 with its most abstracted phase exhibited at Heritage Art Space in Cau Giay last November 2015.
