Hanoi – the capital city of Vietnam has its proud 1000-year-old history and tradition. The music born here shares the richness as the city’s history itself: diversified and original.
“Music Story of the Old Quarter” is a monthly music shows which is objected to introduce generally to the world the evolution of the city of Hanoi’s music, from past to present.
The shows portrait the city’s music history through traditional vocal techniques, rhythms and beats combined with contemporary installation arts. The performances are delivered by the top class singers and musicians.
Through the shows, we hope to successfully communicate the core values of Hanoi’s culture, history and humans to the audiences, both Vietnamese natives and foreign friends.
SPECIAL PROGRAM THIS MONTH: Cheo Singing
Cheo is a traditional opera in the rural Northern delta area thousands of years ago. Cheo is originated from Pham Thi Tran, who was ordained as Uu Ba by the king Dinh Tien Hoang and worshiped in a temple in Ninh Binh.
With a long history, Cheo is a treasure of Vietnamese music, all the emotional tones (sad, happy, missing..) are expressed in Cheo performance. Associated with the agricultural life of Vietnamese people for thousands of years, Cheo portrays the iconic ancient Vietnamese people in agricultural society.
This performance tells a story about Vietnamese opera art through the typical Cheo acts (Quan Am Thi Kinh, Luu Binh Duong Le, Kim Nham ..) and short songs to feature the literary and musical characteristics of Cheo.
With the participation of the best Cheo singers: People’s Artist Thanh Hoai, People’s Artist Manh Phong, MA Thanh Binh, MA Thuy Ngan, MA Bich Lien, MA Vu Ngoc, MA Van Chinh ..
– ENTRANCE FEE: 200.000 VNĐ

– Buying bamboo sticks (50k/stick) and give the stick to organisers after any performance that you find amusing.
