Cultural Lecture “Female Heroes in Vietnam”
Fri 31 Mar 2017, 7 – 8.30 pm
Play! Café
3rd floor
318 Lac Long Quan, Tay Ho (about half way along Lac Long Quan), Hanoi
From FVH:
In Vietnam women have always been at the forefront in the resistance against foreign domination. Two revered and popular heroines are the Trưng sisters, who famously led the first national uprising against the Chinese. But they are not the only icons who have exerted such influence in Vietnam’s society, history and culture. The role of women encompasses numerous areas such as warriors, nurses, mothers and wives – from ancient times and legends to modern day.
For our 2nd lecture in our cultural lecture series we will touch on the role of women in Vietnam, worship, beliefs, different aspects of heroism, as well as the Trưng sisters’ folk religion.
The talk will be supported by pictures, photos, video and as much explanation as possible. Our aim is to make this as visually interesting and as engaging as possible.
We are delighted that Ass. Prof. Dr (Mrs) Pham Lan Oanh from the Vietnam Institute of Culture and Arts Studies (VICAS) is hosting this lecture and there will be a chance for Q&A at the end.
