KVT’s Dose of Zen
ZEN @ L’ESPACE and LOTS of SPACE @the KOREAN CULTURAL CENTER
Sometimes- or often-in the chaos of motorized and honking Hanoi you need to get a visual stimulus that takes you out of it all for a while and drops you into a space of quietude.
Two current art exhibitions in the city will surely calm the most frazzled, noise buffered psyches.
L’Espace, slap bang in a cloud of hazzle frazzle has a soothing dose of Zen by artist Truong Tien Tra
Large, mostly white and pasteled, paintings make you offer fervent praise to whatever gods of anti-noise you worship and if there were soft couches or mats spread around the space, a lot of us would sink into or onto them in deep relief and contemplation
A lot of contemplators would like to lazily meditate in front of the lotus series
I’m a lover of cawing ravens so I’d happily drift off into visions of murders of them (that’s their collective noun) and be more than happy to imagine one or two perched on my head.
After so much white it’s a shock to come upon a red canvas almost hidden on the staircase…
The Korean Cultural Center has a brilliant group exhibition of outstanding artists from Vietnam and South Korea –more about that at a later date!
Korean photographic artist Seulki Ki has exhibited a gorgeously minimal selection of the most enigmatically and thoughtful prints I’ve seen in a long while. While some may find them disturbing I slipped comfortably between their metaphoric sheets
All the gallery needs is a swivel armchair slap bang in the middle of them so that you can contemplate and enjoy another welcoming dose of Zen
