A fruitful collaboration with Goethe Institute in Vietnam, the operetta “Die Fledermaus” (The Bat, or Revenge of the Bat), considered by many as the forefather of musical, is a continual success of HBSO and a personal achievement of the young German director David Hermann.

Not limiting themselves to the classical music frameworks or any ultimate standards, the liberty taken by David Herman in directing the musical lives up to every word of the vision he shared before the premiere show. The “formula” he used to construct the piece has been unquestionably shown to be successful, from the initial selection of the 140-year-old classic, the fine reflection of the rising, vibrant vibe of HCM City, to the spectacular effort and work put together in such a short amount of time by the performers and musicians, and the cultural balance achieved through languages, costumes, and stage designs.

The operetta is full of flirtations, identity obscurity at a ball, the upper class’ trivial deceptions, yet altogether delivered by the language of music, spoken dialogues, and ballet movements. After its excellent premiere at Autumn Melodies Arts Festival 2017, the operetta “Die Fledermaus” will return under the baton of conductor Tran Nhat Minh.
