In a totally new series of experimental music called ‘BEYOND the SOUND’, Heritage Space coordinates with DomDom to introduce music lovers to a talented artist: Will Guthrie, in just one night only in Hanoi.
Will Guthrie is an Australian drummer / percussionist living in France. He works in many different settings of music: live performance, improvisation and studio composition using various combinations of drums, percussion, objects, junk, amplification and electronics…
Will Guthrie experiments with objects to create sounds:
He plays solo and in various projects such as THE AMES ROOM & THE SOMMES ENSEMBLE. His music has been released on labels such as Black Truffle, Editions Mego, Ipecac, Erstwhile, Clean Feed, Gaffer Records, 23five, iDEAL and his own label Antboy Music.
While studying jazz and improvised music(s) at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, alongside Ren Walters he started the weekly concert series ‘Improvised Tuesdays’, now known as the Make It Up Club and is Australia’s longest running performance space dedicated to experimental and improvised musics. In Nantes, France he is part of the collective CABLE# which also organizes regular concerts and an annual festival. He also runs the experimental improvised CD label and mail-order service; ANTBOY MUSIC.
He plays solo using different combinations of drums, percussion, amplification and electronics, in minimalist/maximalist free jazz trio THE AMES ROOM (with Jean-Luc Guionnet & Clayton Thomas), as well as the improvised/composed ensemble THE SOMMES ENSEMBLE (with Pierre-Antoine Badaroux, Julien Desperez & Maxime Petit).

‘BEYOND the SOUND’ is a series of concerts of experimental music aiming to reveal the latest works of Vietnamese and foreign composers/ musicians. The program is curated and organized by Heritage Space and DomDom.
About the organizers:
Heritage Space is a combination of a gallery, library, concert hall, co-working space, boarding room and outdoor space with the possibility of organizing exhibitions, concerts and performances, education and exchange, artists residency programs, and many other activities. Run by a team of curators, art researchers, and artists, Heritage Space is aspiring to become an intersection of individuals/groups/ organizations from a wide range of domestic and international creative fields, with a long-term goal to support and develop the creative industry in Vietnam.
DOMDOM: Being a Hub for Experimental Music and Art, Domdom has been created in 2012 as the first independent interdisciplinary center dedicated to Vietnamese experimental music and its collaboration with other art forms. Running by artist Kim Ngoc and the husband Xuan Son (Son X), Domdom has been playing essential role in Vietnamese arts & music in this moment. (domdommusic.org)
