From L’Espace L’Espace:
You are invited to a discussion with the topic “Adultery in Literature: the unfinished love songs” on the occasion of launching the two books “Un autre matin et autres musiques de scène” by Françoise Sagan and “The Train” by Georges Simenon.
In the middle of the evacuation from the arrival of the German army, a radio repairer, once a family man, sees his tranquil happiness suddenly shattered when meeting with a young woman in whom he finds his soulmate. A young man, taking advantage of the absence of his wife and children who have gone on vacation, takes m a rest at home and suddenly becomes aware of the presence of his female neighbor. A woman, as she searches for her lost cat, discovers her husband in the arms of another woman…
Georges Simenon’s “The Train”, and Françoise Sagan’s “Un autre matin et autres musiques de scène” have one thing in common: a painful ending. Adultery seems to have always appeared in literature as unfinished songs of love. But it is not a corny subject: countless renowned writers of different generations have been inspired by infidelity. Not only because of the literary interest represented by the “third person” and its affects, but also because the theme resonates with writers’ obsessions and their questions about family life, social relations and the choices each person makes in life.
