You are invited to photography exhibition “Fall & Release” by Thomas Dessein.
The expression “Fall & Release” refers to a training and studying method common in contemporary dance that aims to reeducate and enhance motricity, the power of movement of the body. Learning to fall may seem strange for some viewers, yet it is the most essential movement for the dancer. More important than any virtuoso gesture, the fall is the founding tension of all movement.
As “Fall & Release” is the starting point for any dance training, it is also the starting point of the artist’s photographic study on space, movement and the nuance of the fall.
For this work, the artist has tried to rediscover, through the figure of the fall, this space in between the causes and consequences of a movement, where space and time is undefined and the body forgets itself to give the viewer the most absurd beauty.
This work is accompanied by other photographs taken by the artist during this year in Asia.
