“Imitation and Creativity” is a music event where the traditional meets the contemporary: it consists of beatbox performances by Minh Kien and Donnie Band, and ca trù (Vietnam’s ancient chamber music) and quan họ (a folk music style) by artist Minh Hue.
Known as the first professional beatboxer in Vietnam, Minh Kien discovered the art of beatboxing when he was 16 and decided to pursue a musical career despite objection from his family. Having been active as a singer, dancer and beatboxer, Kien is considered the one who laid the foundation for the development of beatboxing in Vietnam. Kien will be accompanied by Dannie and Nam To – two members of the beatbox band Donnie, which championed the 2018 Human’s Noise beatbox competition in the northern region in Vietnam.
Singer Minh Hue will add a more traditional color to the show with her quan họ talent. Born in Bac Giang Province – one of the birthplace of quan họ – she has won numerous awards in Vietnam with the traditional music genre.
