Solo Exhibition “The Mien” by Le Minh Duc
Exhibition: 15 Jun – 14 Jul 2018
VICAS ART STUDIO
32 Hao Nam street, Hanoi
From the organizer:
“When I draw,
I’m not much towards the depth
of space,
but
I’m in favor of the depth
of psychology ”
This self-expression is the artistic perspective thoroughly reflected in all 60 artworks displayed at this solo exhibition by artist Le Minh Duc.
30 portraits featured in the exhibition present most apparently the artist’s artistic view.
With Expressionism, he does not care much about the principles of anatomy or graphics, but focuses only on the expression of “The Mien” that revealed by the painted subjects. Each portrait presents a unique character associated with a distinctive mental and psychological; yet shared a common: pure and sinless faces.
Le Minh Duc has been an awesome landscape artist since his student life at Yet Kieu (Vietnam University of Fine Art). So far thousands of his Expressionism poetic landscape paintings have come to the hands of customers all over the world.
However, Le Minh Duc did not limit himself with that style (with which he has gained enormous success in both local and international galleries). Responding his inner urge, he has continued to explore new things to fulfill himself.
Now, he still likes to work on landscapes but it’s not the magnificent scenery, the shimmering that people have to go somewhere or wait for the moment to find, to reflect but the natural scenery and idyllic to the life around him (street views from the high-rise buildings above, sometimes from houses along narrow alleys…).
In term of artistic language, his creativity has significantly contributed to national art scene. Recently, he has adopted neo-expressionism style in which, for him, the image is just a reason for him to play with colors to express his intuitive feelings toward a particular landscape. Seemingly when drawing, he takes his subjects into his own mind, absorbed it and instantly projected them onto the canvas. The way he plastered colors such in fast, powerful, inspiring and fully blended style, associated with low-toned color mix and some contrast-toned strokes as usually did by old artists that created “the mien” for the painting. It is also the very way the artist expresses his own mental state.
