From Okia Cinema:

At autumn’s beginning, we proudly present beautiful, moving movies about fatherhood. After this week, we will continue screening exceptional cinema pieces about paternal love at Okia Cinema each weekend.

LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL(1997)

Just as the title of the movie, “Life is Beautiful” by actor-director Roberto Benigni has become one of the most loved movies of all time due to its touching story – full of love and bright future that a father hopes for his child.
Life is beautiful is also a movie about romance that’s both humorous and loving.
With a strange ability to connect, Roberto Benigni created an unbelievable symbol of love and life – rising above the dark context in Nazi concentration camps.
Giosue, a young boy, followed his parents into a concentration camp and faced death, being Jewish. Yet, his father turned the deadly sorrows into a funny, thrilling game… guiding his son through all the “levels” until the last moment…
Maybe later on, Giosue would find out the truth about the game that his father traded with his own life… but in the movie, until the last minute, he made Giosue believe in how beautiful this life is!
Watching Life is Beautiful, you are seeing a success both academically and commercially, with numerous prizes at world-class film festivals and an astonishing box office revenue. There is no reason why you should miss it this weekend.

I AM SAM (2001)

I am Sam is a touching movie about the strangest father in the world. A man forever aged 7… even when his body changed, or even grew old…
With a brain forever stopped at that point, how would Sam live when on a beautiful day, he discovered that he was a father! And still… when his daughter Lucy grew up, surpassed the age 7 that her father stuck in?
Would the society with its strict rules let this father with a frozen mind take the responsibility for Lucy, who were growing up and becoming more mature day by day?
I am Sam is one of 100 most inspiring movie of all time, winning all the grand prizes due to the amazing acting of this father-daughter league. The critics never ceased to acclaim the movie and the audience can stop wiping the tears from their faces.
Sam by Sean Penn made the viewers totally buy his character, and little Dakota Fanning’s Lucy made it impossible to stay still in our seats with our hearts keep skipping a beat.
With this two characters, in this very movie, two major movie stars were born.

LIKE FATHER LIKE SON (2013)

A movie for those who love Asian and especially Japanese cinema. If you’re a fan of Hirokazu Kore-eda – who were grabbing everyone’s attention with oh-so-sweet movies like “After Life” (1998), “Nobody Knows” (2004) or “Still Walking” (2008). The beautiful, sophisticated cinematography of “Like father like son” will steal your heart without you knowing it. A film as gentle and comforting as a water stream, and full of love. Slow-paced with an immense Asian spirit.
Yet the story is very dramatic and contemporary: 2 fathers, after 6 years of knowing each other, suddenly discovered that their beloved son were actually… switched at birth due to hospital’s error. The lives of 2 families, one is wealthy and the other difficult, are turned upside down completely when the hospital admitted their mistake. 2 6-year-old boys then faced a major confusion in their life. 2 mothers, 2 fathers, 2 families… how would they deal with this? How to settle the fate of themselves and of their loved ones?
Having won the Grand Prix at the 2013 Cannes Festival, it could be said that “Like father like son” is the symbol of modern Japanese cinema, full of Asian spirit yet its philosophy is very contemporary.
