From Goethe Institut:
In cooperation with the German master chef Mirko Trenkner and the Vietnamese celebrity chef Steven Long, the Goethe-Institut in Ho Chi Minh City invites you to a culinary journey of tastes on 19 November. The two culinary artists form a symbiosis of the respective country cuisine and create a menu of German and Vietnamese specialties.
The term “Blue Hour” refers to the turn of the day into night, when the sun has just set and the darkness is already announced. It is the moment when sunset and moonrise merge and the sky shines in a rich blue of light and dark.
The blue hour stands for the unity of diversity, for a symbiotic coexistence of two opposites.
For many, the blue hour means one thing above else: closing time. The work ends and the free time begins. It’s the time to meet friends or family, exchange ideas and eat together. How we eat and what we eat is essential for our cultural identity. Eating together means living, loving and laughing in company.
The Blue Hour in Ho Chi Minh City will take place on 19 November at 7 pm at Thong Nhật Bistro in District 2. The restaurant is run by Francis Văn Hội, who came to Germany in 1976, trained as a cook in Munich, and became a successful restaurateur.
Thirty years later, Francis returned to Vietnam, where he founded a vocational school in the tourism sector in Saigon. Francis trains young people from poorer backgrounds into cooks and service personnel. His close connection to Germany is still reflected in the menus of the restaurants: Thus, in addition to Vietnamese classics you can also find some German delicacies in the menu.
