From Institut Français du Vietnam:
You are invited to the meet & greet with author David Foenkinos within the framework of the French Literature Week: from Pages to Screen.
In HCMC, after the discussion, at 8pm on the same day, there will be a screening of “Delicacy”, a movie based on the novel of the same name by David Foenkinos.
David Foenkinos is one of the most renowned French writer nowadays. In 2002, his first novel, “Inversion de l’idiotie” (Inversion of idiocy), published by Gallimard, was well-received by critics. In 2004, “Erotic Potential of My Wife” won him the Roger-Nimier Prize, a launching pad to his writing career. David Foenkinos is now one of the authors not to be missed. Yet it was “Delicacy” published in 2009 that propelled David Foenkinos to the rank of famous authors. His book, full of subtlety and delicacy, which addresses with compassion the theme of mourning and the eternal question: can we reopen our hearts when we have lost the love of our lives? The film was adapted into movie by the author himself, and was nominated for César Award for Best First Feature Film and for Best Adaptation. Foenkinos’ success did not stop there. Recently in 2014, “Charlotte” won him the Renaudot and Goncourt des lycéens literary prizes and became a literature phenomenon and a success in stores with nearly 1 million copies sold.
In Vietnam, David Foenkinos is widely known for his novels “Delicacy”, “Erotic Potential of My Wife”, “Nos séparations” (Our seperation) and soon “Charlotte”. As a co-director, he is also known for “Delicacy”, “Jalouse”. The ‘marriage’ seemingly essential between the sense of literature in cinema and of cinematography in literary works, will undoubtedly be an interesting subject that, on the occasion of French Literature Week 2018: from pages to screen, David Foenkinos – successful in both fields – will be able to share not only with Vietnamese literature and cinema enthusiasts but also with the country’s writers and directors.
