You are invited to the talk “The thorns in Tran Vu’s novels” with the participation of:

– Tran Ngoc Hieu, PhD. in Literary theory
It is impossible to talk about contemporary short stories without mentioning Tran Vu. His works are characterized with words that are either devastating painful, frighteningly daring, or chillingly cold; the techniques of defamiliarization, transforming reality, magicalism are utilized to the max to explore the relationship between history, reality, violence and sex. Tran Vu’s writings refused to be vague or languid, and always pushed through to extreme angles and then finding people in the deepest, darkest places.
On the occasion of the book launch for the Tran Vu’s short stories collection, this talk is an opportunity for readers to learn more about his enticing writing style, a Vietnamese living in a foreign land but can very well “play” with Vietnamese language.
