Premiered in 2012, “Barbara” is one of the films that Goethe Institut is going to present to mark the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
A film provides a look back at the DDR in the 1980s. Babara is a doctor who wants to move to West Germany. After applying for an emigration permit she gets transferred for disciplinary reasons to a province hospital and gets monitored by the state security service. This only supports her wish to leave the country. She still prepares her escape unswervingly, but decides otherwise in the last moment.
