From Goethe Institut:
In 2019, Six Space initiated CITIZEN EARTH project with the aim to raise environmental awareness through art, cultural, community-based education programs and interdisciplinary dialogue between artists, researchers and experts in natural sciences, engineering and humanities.
As we are approaching the end of a roller coaster year, we must question the role of the artist in society as we push forward. What is the value of art in our world? Can art—deemed as ‘nonessential’—still give us hope? How can artists collaborate with people working in other disciplines to create innovation and make an impact? These urgent questions have been coming up over the last few months for all of us: artists, curators, and contributors of the project. A post-Covid world will not look the same, yet, this crucial time opens us up to new experimentations. In ending the year 2020, CITIZEN EARTH are excited to welcome back our audience to be a part of our project.
For three full days during the last weekend of November, Six Space invites audiences to attend a series of special events inside the historical National University of Vietnam in Hanoi located on Le Thanh Tong street. Five series of works by Nguyen Linh Chi (in collaboration with sound artist Nhung Nguyen), Le Giang, Pham Thu Hang, Tran Thao Mien and Nguyen Duc Phuong will bring different stories concerning questions such as the environment, urbanization, heritage, the post-human, and post-colonial issues.
Besides, audiences can explore the important heritage of architecture and science located on 19 Le Thanh Tong through participating in our special events. Formerly the Université Indochinoise since 1927, the university holds an old collection of natural science, and remains an important laboratory for generations of scientists today.
CITIZEN EARTH also marked the fifth year of Six Space’s establishment in Hanoi, Vietnam, and its active engaging role in art and cultural activities locally and internationally. The wish to bring contemporary art into historical and heritage sites is a continuation of Six Space’s long-committed vision to bridge the creative and discursive gap between the old and the new, the traditional and contemporary.
