From the organizer:

The Vietnam Fine Arts Association and the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum is pleased to introduce “David Thomas and Friends” exhibition, showcasing the latest works of graphic artist C.David Thomas from Boston (USA) and Vietnamese artists.

Participants: David C. Thomas, Bùi Hải Sơn, Đào Châu Hải, Đặng Thị Dương, Đặng Xuân Hòa, Lê Huy Tiếp, Lê Kinh Tài, Lê Lạng Lương, Lê Quốc Việt, Lê Thị Hiền, Lê Thừa Tiến, Nguyễn Ngọc Lâm, Nguyễn Thị Kim Chi, Nguyễn Quang Thắng, Nguyễn Thế Sơn, Nguyễn Vũ Quyên, Phạm Huy Thông, Phan Cẩm Thượng, Phan Oánh, Trần Lương, Vũ Bạch Liên and Vũ Kim Thư.

For many years since 1988, C. David Thomas and the Indochina Arts Partnership (a.k.a IAP) has been known for organizing cultural and artistic exchange between Vietnam and the United States, especially with large-scale significant exhibitions right before and after the normalization of relations between the two countries in 1995. David Thomas, a Vietnam veteran, an print-maker and art educator who, by their efforts, has made great and important contributions to initiating and sustaining activities that healed and built the mutual understanding in many aspects between the two nations that used to have a common painful past.

The exhibition showcases selected graphic works from the series of C. David Thomas during his struggle with Parkinson’s syndrome in recent years, which has been identified as one of the consequences of exposure to Agent Orange, which was probably infected during the war. The print series is fully presented in the “Finding Parkinson’s” group exhibition of David Thomas and Boston’s printmakers in Danang Fine Art Museum. The exhibition also showcases the works of 21 Vietnamese artists who have been invited to participate in art and culture exchange programs and activities organized and supported by IAP over a period of 30 years since 1989 to 2019. Their relationship with David Thomas and IAP went far beyond the artistic professional exchange, but about sharing common sentiments and spiritual values: the beauty of arts, the healing and building emotions through aesthetics, the companionship in life, the sympathies for the past and the bright vision of the future.

The works of C.David Thomas displayed in this exhibition are part of the “Photo Hanoi 23” – The first international photography biennale in Vietnam initiated by the French Institute in Hanoi.

Sponsors: Vietnam Fine Arts Association and Vietnam Fine Arts Museum. The program also received support from Ms. Tuyen Nguyen, Kim Long Foundation and Thanh Uy Art Gallery, G. Bee CHUA (Zen Collection) and Patron Art Space.
