Finest Artists 2024-2025: Phạm Minh Hiếu

PHẠM MINH HIẾU

Year of birth: 1996

Field: Visual arts

Phạm Minh Hiếu is a contemporary artist who ponders the complex of contemporaneity and creates dwellings which he calls ‘total installation’. His practice emphasises a spirit of collaboration, drawing from a foundation shaped by scholars across diverse disciplines from philosophy, physics, technology to anthropology. By blending emerging technologies with traditional themes and materials, Hiếu’s works transcend mere reflections on reality and offer an expression of contemporary Vietnamese identity.

In 2024, Phạm Minh Hiếu distinguished himself with a series of important and dynamic artistic activities. In addition to his solo exhibition “Untitled (7 Events)” at Galerie Quỳnh, he participated in the exhibition “Apollo’s Decathlon” and became a winner of the Conceptual Olympiad in the Installation category, for which his work was exhibited at the Château de Montsoreau-Museum of Contemporary Art. The 15th Gwangju Biennale marked Hiếu’s debut at an international biennale, where he contributed to the first appearance of the Vietnam Pavilion in this event with his project “The Laboratory for Experimental (Meta)physics (Room 5).” At the end of 2024, he co-curated the “Great Exhibition at Hanoi Children’s Palace: Nostalgia for the Future” as part of Hanoi Festival of Creative Design 2024.

HANOI GRAPEVINE’s FINEST is an annual event that honors contemporary art projects in Vietnam. The event is organized and nominated by Hanoi Grapevine and the general audience.

Entering its 6th year, Hanoi Grapevine’s Finest aims to go beyond an annual honouring event to become a contemporary archive of Vietnam’s art and cultural landscape, as well as a foundational platform to promote interdisciplinary collaborations both domestically and internationally, towards an open, fair, and transparent ecosystem.

This year, Hanoi Grapevine’s Finest 2024-2025 is divided into two major categories: Honouring and Recognition. Nominations are selected based on sets of criteria that aim to highlight the developmental significance and scale of impact, including activity level, community impact, creativity, organisational capability and artistic quality.
