Finest Projects 2024-2025: Hagait Ni

About project: Hagait Ni is a music project that combines traditional and contemporary Cham culture, initiated by young artisans to explore new directions in preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the Cham people.

Hagait Ni explores and expands on different music genres in religious life and delves deeper into the cultural aspects of the Cham, aiming to create a sound ecosystem with creativity at its core, and heading towards the development of a new musicality based on studied traditional materials.

In 2024, Hagait Ni launched its journey with the performance “Kauthara” in January in Nha Trang, introducing Cham music and dance in two parts: Traditional and Contemporary. Following this, “MAI – MARAI” – a multi-layered performance about memory and time – had its first show in Nha Trang in July before being officially premiered at Nổ Cái Bùm 2024 in August. In the same month, Hagait Ni brought “MAI – MARAI” to Da Lat City’s audience while also holding a workshop on “Exploring and Practising the Ghinang drum”.

HANOI GRAPEVINE’s FINEST is an annual event that honors contemporary art projects in Vietnam. The event is organized and nominated by Hanoi Grapevine and the general audience.

Entering its 6th year, Hanoi Grapevine’s Finest aims to go beyond an annual honouring event to become a contemporary archive of Vietnam’s art and cultural landscape, as well as a foundational platform to promote interdisciplinary collaborations both domestically and internationally, towards an open, fair, and transparent ecosystem.

This year, Hanoi Grapevine’s Finest 2024-2025 is divided into two major categories: Honouring and Recognition. Nominations are selected based on sets of criteria that aim to highlight the developmental significance and scale of impact, including activity level, community impact, creativity, organisational capability and artistic quality.
