Finest Projects 2024-2025: Vườn Cộng Đồng
VƯỜN CỘNG ĐỒNG
About project: “Vườn Cộng Đồng” (lit. Community Garden) was a collaborative project between Goethe-Institut Hanoi, Institut français in Hanoi and Think Playgrounds, with participating artists from Germany, France, and Vietnam. By engaging in artistic practices centred on the stories of residents in the often-overlooked Red River banks, as well as ecological narratives amidst the exponential urban development of the capital city, the project promoted sustainable development of public spaces and urban landscapes in Hanoi.
The project incorporated diverse artistic practices and approaches such as temporary installations, inclusive discussions and comic drawing activities, all organised in green spaces and residential areas with the active engagement of local communities in the creation process. Satellite events were also held within the project’s framework, such as the Red River bank art tour “Biến rác thành tác phẩm nghệ thuật: Các giải pháp môi trường đô thị tại Hà Nội qua lăng kính sáng tạo” (lit. Turning Waste into Art: Urban environmental solutions in Hanoi through creative lens”; the workshop “Nhuộm tự nhiên – Khăn trải bàn ven sông Hồng tại Công viên rừng Phúc Tân” (lit. Natural Dyeing – Red Riverbank tablecloths at Phuc Tan Forest Park”; artist talks on community art from the perspectives of Vietnamese and German artists; a community dinner where people cook together using native plants and fermented dishes while discussing the ecosystem along the Red River, and local environmental preservation efforts; as well as an ecological and recycling fair.

HANOI GRAPEVINE’s FINEST is an annual event that honors contemporary art projects in Vietnam. The event is organized and nominated by Hanoi Grapevine and the general audience.
Entering its 6th year, Hanoi Grapevine’s Finest aims to go beyond an annual honouring event to become a contemporary archive of Vietnam’s art and cultural landscape, as well as a foundational platform to promote interdisciplinary collaborations both domestically and internationally, towards an open, fair, and transparent ecosystem.
This year, Hanoi Grapevine’s Finest 2024-2025 is divided into two major categories: Honouring and Recognition. Nominations are selected based on sets of criteria that aim to highlight the developmental significance and scale of impact, including activity level, community impact, creativity, organisational capability and artistic quality.
