Have you ever wondered how a literary work is adapted into film? In this workshop, we will explore that fascinating journey through Czech animated films — a cinematic tradition rich in heritage and creativity within Europe.

Guided by director Nghiêm Quỳnh Trang and curator Nguyễn Quốc Thành, participants will:
– Enjoy a selection of remarkable Czech animated films
– Learn about film history and the adaptation process from literature to screen
– Try their hand at creating a short animated segment using a tablet

The workshop is open to children aged 10–14 and up, as well as parents who have a passion for cinema and animation.
No prior experience is required. For those who wish to participate in the hands-on session, please bring a tablet.

Instructor and Coordinator

Nghiêm Quỳnh Trang

Nghiêm Quỳnh Trang is currently based in both Prague and Hanoi. After earning a degree in political science from the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, she received a French government scholarship to attend a summer documentary program at La Fémis, which marked the beginning of her filmmaking career. In 2011, she earned her Master’s degree in Directing from EICAR in Paris. She co-wrote and produced the feature film Cu Li Never Cries, which won several awards at international film festivals in 2024. Her most recent short film as director has been selected for the 2025 Czech Short Films Collection by the Czech Film Fund and will be screened at the ShorTS International Short Film Festival in Trieste, Italy, in July 2025.

Nguyễn Quốc Thành
An artist, curator, and co-founder of Nhà Sàn Collective in Hanoi.
Since 2013, he has initiated Queer Forever! – a creative community space that includes a mobile cinema, artist residencies, a kitchen, and a venue for queer gathering, learning, and love.
In 2019, Thành launched Vườn Lài, Xứ Sở Diệu Kỳ – a series of screenings, discussions, and publications dedicated to queer cinema in Vietnam.
In 2022, together with collaborators, he opened ‘ưhưh22’ – the queer house, as part of Bến, a Nhà Sàn Collective project presented at the documenta fifteen international art exhibition in Kassel, Germany.
