Hanoi Grapevine team strongly believes that arts, music, and all other cultural forms of expression have the power to change the world by empowering humane feelings, spurring thinking, engagement and even action towards creating a better society for all mankind.

Hanoi Grapevine is a social enterprise known as the pioneering independent online platform promoting arts and culture in Vietnam. In addition to connecting local artists, art spaces and high-quality event organisers with their audience, Hanoi Grapevine organises educational, knowledge-sharing events and programmes which aim to form an effective support system for art and cultural activities. Hanoi Grapevine’s office and its Đỡ Đần Library are located at Room 217, Ministry of Health Apartment Complex, 42B Ly Thuong Kiet Street, Hanoi.

OUR SERVICES

Hanoi Grapevine provides bilingual content in English and Vietnamese of high-quality art and culture events in the contemporary cultural landscape in Vietnam, together with art reviews, artist interviews, news of Vietnamese artists’ activities overseas, exhibition photos and introduction of indie films, as well as open calls for creative practitioners. We also provide addresses of cultural institutes and art spaces as well as artists’ websites and contacts.

We are expanding our services for art and culture people including public relations, media consultancy as well as research and education in the art and culture sector.

OUR HISTORY

Hanoi Grapevine was founded in 2007 as a one-man blog on WordPress by Canadian artist Brian Ring. The name comes from an old saying in English – “I heard it through the grapevine” – which indicates that information is received informally, as that was how Brian knew of what was happening in the contemporary art scene in Hanoi back then.

Today, Hanoi Grapevine is not only a reputable website and a reliable news source for tens of thousands of people with official information received from the event organisers, but also a platform for connections between artists, organisers and spaces to co-host workshops, exhibitions, knowledge-sharing and capacity-building sessions in the field of art, culture and creativity.

OUR VISION

Hanoi Grapevine aims to become the number-one virtual information hub for artists, creative practitioners and anyone interested in and wants to learn about arts and culture in Vietnam. “Think Art-Culture-Vietnam? Think Grapevine!”

OUR MISSION

Hanoi Grapevine’s ongoing mission since its inception has always been to promote arts and culture in Vietnam and support independent artists and artistic movements. With this core purpose, Hanoi Grapevine also introduces new art forms, as well as formats that develop support systems for art practitioners to various audiences, thereby encouraging critical and creative thinking.
