Kim Ngoc’s “Spider” in HCMC

– 12 & 13 Sept, 8pm –
HCMC Conservatory of Music Concert Hall
112 Nguyen Du St., Dist. 1, HCMC

“What makes the spider spin her web” is her new creation which was composed and premiered in Hanoi in April 2007. This new work is the first time Kim Ngoc uses video images – projected by Canadian video-artist Brian Ring – together with electro-computer music and other visual means that have been familiar in her music-theatre works to date – light, theatre set, acting, space interaction. Kim Ngoc also performs herself with vocal improvisation.

After two impressive performances in Hanoi, the Goethe-Institut Vietnam and the Danish Cultural Development and Exchange Fund (CDEF) are proud to present “What Makes The Spider Spin Her Web” to the audiences of Ho Chi Minh City.

“What  makes the spider spin her web”

“…is a well-known line from an old Vietnamese folk song which often appears in other traditional songs. “This sentence is both a question and a lament. It affects me powerfully, calling to mind women, a rope binding them, a journey shared, from the ancestors to the present day.”
Kim Ngoc
