A co-operation between Le Huy Hoang (Vietnam), Pham Khac Quang (Vietnam) and Reny Worb (Holland).
In 2006, at the Hanoi Campus, we attended to an open discussion on co-operation regarding an installation project. It was there that we met each other:
Pham Khac Quang, Bachelor Degree, Hanoi University of Fine Arts
Le Huy Hoang, Bachelor Degree, Hanoi University of Fine Arts
Reny Worb, Bachelor Degree, Amsterdam Gerrit Rietveld Academy
Contents of the installations
Hanoi is being re-developed. Re-development means demolition and reconstruction, moving out and returning to a changed environment. Nowadays the old houses of Hanoi are more and more encircled by huge flats and apartment buildings.
QUANG will build an apartment complex in perspex with windows sank in wood. The building is tranparent and inside the spectator sees an authentic old Hanoi house. In times of changes and renovation we should not forget the “soul” of these special places in Hanoi.
HOANG’s installation is a big loudspeaker made from bamboo. The loudspeaker is a silent witness of what has happened in the city. The basis of the loudspeaker is a simple bamboo construction. Bamboo is a materiaal that is often used for constructions in Hanoi. In front of the loudspeaker, on the floor, an old house made from waste materiaal, is placed. The presence of this little house is a point of reference in the awareness of the surroundings.
RENY’s installation consists of pictures of old houses combined with gathered old window frames. The picture of old houses in Hanoi will be exhibited in frames of new wood. The window frames have their place between inside and outsider, between old and new, between familiar and unfamiliar, between visitor (Reny) and residents (Quang and Huang). The residents who, from behind the window, see how Hanoi is changing.
We are not afraid of changes and unknown developments, we do enjoy developing new ideas, as you can see in our joint exposition of our work, but also we will keep the history alive.
