  2. Hi KVT, Thanks for spending time to write about the work is such a remarkable way! Ilza, sorry about that link, like phm said, maybe it’s a link that’s public to “friends” on facebook.

    However, to answer your question Ilza, that particular work speaks about a trap without bait, like Pandora’s box, Hephaestus’ Lure is a trap only a human could become ensnared in. Humans are the only species that apparently puts higher symbolic value on certain elements, and gold is at the top. The gold is the bait. It was a response to the curators challenge to think about the exhibition named “content/content” – where the content is the form. If that makes any sense :)

    Thanks everyone and I hope you’ll have the chance to see the work at Manzi. To “lure” you in, Prof. Nora Taylor will be giving a talk there on the evening of the 30th!! :)

    and it seems to me that it does make perfect sense.

    It has to be the rudimental of any object, i.e. any object… where the symbolic value = (but is not > (more than) its utility value & vise versa — say a slab of gold…(?)

    …please, do feel free to correct me if I am wrong…

    ..in which case… I am afraid, that the artist is conned by “the riddle” out of their making art…

    …would very much like to know how you resolved this challenge in your artwork, so it will be great if you let the pix be published on the Hanoi Grapevine (?)
