From Manzi:
Manzi is pleased to host an artist talk with Mat Logan (b. 1990, Nelson, New Zealand)
After graduating from the University of Canterbury, School of Fine Arts in 2012 majoring in sculpture, Mat has exhibited in a variety of public and artist-run art spaces. He was an artist-in-residence at the Taipei Artist Village, Taiwan, in 2013.
Mat uses found and altered objects to describe facets of the cultures and places he encounters. Often using a small number of elements, his works have a touch of playfulness and lightness, regularly accompanied by an edge of melancholy or tension.
Since early September this year Mat has been participating in a three month artist residency in Vietnam, with the support of the Asia New Zealand Foundation. He spent the first nine weeks at San-Art in Ho Chi Minh City, and is now being hosted by Manzi for the remainder of his time in Vietnam.
During his time in Ho Chi Minh City, Mat – along with Tran Minh Duc and Dao Tung – initiated the group exhibition “Howdy Cowboy” at DIA Projects. “Howdy Cowboy” collides fragments of historical events, personal experiences and contemporary Vietnamese narratives to create an engaged installation of objects and video. “Howdy Cowboy” will travel to New Zealand in February 2016 for showcase during the Wellington International Festival of the Arts.
Free entrance.
