Announcement from British Council:

The National Winner who will represent Vietnam on the final contest in London in Oct, 2010, also attends the prestigious “London Film Festival” and its related events is Ms. Tran Thi Bich Ngoc, born in 1977.

The 1st runner up is Vu Manh Cuong, born in 1979.

About the IYSE National Winner & 1st runner up

Ms. Tran Thi Bich Ngoc – national winner:
Graduating from the Hanoi Institute of Cinema and Theater Arts, Ngoc spent the next few years as a director for a Hanoi television station and Feature film studio in Hanoi.
As an independent producer, she has produced numerous award-winning television commercials. She has also worked on international feature productions with directors as diverse as Phillip Noyce (Quiet American), Oliver Stone (Pinkville project), Peter Moland (Beautiful Country Hans) and Tran Anh Hung (Vertical Ray of the Sun).
Ngoc is passionate about contributing to the development of the Vietnamese film industry. She believes her role as a filmmaker is to bring inspiring stories to the screen that will bridge history with the present, and raise awareness about Vietnamese Cinema around the world.

Mr. Vu Manh Cuong – first runner up:
Vu Manh Cuong is the founder and the director of Yxine Film Fest (YxineFF) which is the first online short film festival for Vietnamese-speaking community at the address www.yxineff.com. He is also the administrator of the website www.yxine.com, a specialized film website featuring the international and Vietnamese cinema with 20,000 members and countless non-members in the last 7 years.
He was the first student ever to be admitted to the German Federal Film Board to finalize his master thesis, and later was hired to begin his professional research there.
Cuong is now researching and teaching at the Institute of International Economic Relations at University of Hamburg (Germany). Film Industry is one of his fields of study.

About the IYSE award

This is the second time that the British Council Vietnam has run the International Young Creative Entrepreneur award organized by the global British Council. In 2008, this award was generated for the first time in fashion sector. This year, British Council & Vietnam Ministry of Culture, Sports & Tourism, with support from Cathay Pacific Airways & BBGV, are promoting the International Young Screen Entrepreneur Award (IYSE) to celebrate the achievement and develop the potential of young creative entrepreneurs working in the screen sector, and to find a representative of Vietnam participating in the international competition in London, the UK in October 2010.

“The candidates were extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the screen industry in Vietnam.  The presentations were engaging, informative and although the applicants were young, the panel was very impressed by their entrepreneurial skills, achievements and creative ideas to further contribute to the development of the industry”, said Alison Ball – Director of British Council Ho Chi Minh city.
