Hanoi DOCLAB & manzi art space proudly presents a talk by Sunjung Kim, Hans De Wolf và Joëlle Tuerlinckx. Sunjung Kim is a Seoul-based curator and Professor at the Korea National University of Arts who has played a pivotal role in linking Korean contemporary art and the international art world.
From 1993 to 2004, she was the Chief Curator at Artsonje Center, Seoul. In 2005, she was the commissioner of the Korean Pavilion at the 51st Venice Biennale. Also in 2005 she founded SAMUSO: Space for Contemporary Art, a curatorial office based in Seoul. Through SAMUSO Kim established Platform Seoul, an annual art festival. She co-curated “Your Bright Future,” an exhibition of 12 contemporary artists from Korea presented at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Houston Museum of Fine Arts (2009–10). Kim has also curated solo exhibitions for artists such as In-Hwan Oh, Martin Creed, Beom Kim and Haegue Yang at Artsonje Center. Kim was the Artistic Director of the 6th Seoul International Media Art Biennale – Media City Seoul 2010. Kim is currently a Co-Artistic Director of ROUNDTABLE: The 9th Gwangju Biennale (Korea, 2012).
Hans De Wolf studied history of art and archaeology at the VUB and afterwards at the department of history of art of the Columbia University of New York. Since 2004, he teaches history of art and aesthetics at the Free University of Brussels (VUB). He is the curator of WANDERLUST: A Never Ending Journey to the Other Side of the Hill, an exhibition project developed in Belgium and realized in close collaboration with Samuso in Seoul. It is focused on five major Belgian visual artist, among whom some of the most infuential classical figures in Western art history of the 20th century such as Marcel Broodthaers or Panamarenko.
Joëlle Tuerlinckx was born in Brussels in 1958, where she still lives. Her work has been presented internationally, including, to cite the most recent, at the Reina Sofia, Palacio de Cristal, Madrid (2009), MAMCO, Geneva (2007), The Drawing Center, New York (2006), The Power Plant, Toronto (2005), Ausstellungshalle Münster (2005), The Renaissance Society, Chicago (2003), South London Gallery (2002), Documenta 11, Kassel (2002), Bonnefantenmuseum, Maastricht (2001), Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst, Ghent (1999) and Witte de With, Rotterdam (1994). She is represented by the Galerie Nächst St. Stephan Rosemarie Schwarzwälder, Vienna and the Galerie Christian Nagel, Cologne/Berlin.
