KVT – Rutting at Manzi
KVT enjoys a fecund breeding season that is very worthwhile being a voyeur of
The sexual pheromones are swirling at Manzi and Thai Nhat Minh’s assorted papier mache animals are in a rutting and tupping frenzy’
They are probably a monoestrous mob and all the fertile females are on heat at about same time and the males are in heightened states of competitive sexual excitement. If they can’t find a convenient female to service -or if they are subordinate to the alpha bucks-they dry hump each other
or display their penile appendages in rampant regalia.
Nostrils widen to take in the maddening smells and lips grimace and spread over saliva dripping teeth
Sexually immature females run around in ever decreasing and bewildered circles
At times the fecund aromas of fornication seep into their brains and they attempt to mount one another with spawning roars or mews of acquiescence.
It’s the season of mating madness and the animals never know where the delights of oananistic or coupled orgasm will leave then stranded.
And as quick as it started it’s all over. Pastures and wooded meadows are trampled but quiet and females graze as if they weren’t at all concerned about the swelling of their wombs and the slight tightness in teats and nipples……
that, in a few, short months will lead to miscarriages, premature deaths, excruciating pain, and usually the delivery of the next and necessary generation
And those non alpha males creep off to the backwoods to preen and flash and rant and dream until the delectably rampant smells of females in season spread into their eyries and they rush in to test their mettle.
Thai Nhat Minh’s exhibition is a winner as it spreads delightfully across walls and floors and windows and will be one of the WOW shows of the year…..and my considered apoplogies for playing fancy free with my interpretation
It’s a delightfully different follow up to his equally excellent show at the Museum of Art last year that instead of having me laughing and grinning had me angry and frustrated at the plight of his beautifully sculpted caged birds and their flylines …about which I wrote with the same abandon of artist intent as I have about the bonking creations in their stunning pastel and acid colors in his 2014 Manzi menagerie.
Below is an image of the artist with a few of his birds which can be purchased at Manzi
And if any, like me, are enamored of his animals in breeding season, they cost from about $300 to $500 a piece and are worth every screwy cent.
The Animals from Minh’s BREEDING SEASON sit way up there with the chooks of DINH CONG DAT at Goethe a couple of years ago
That mirrored beauty par excellence by Quy Tran Duc at L’Espace last year
and are in the same whimsical company as Tran Chi Thanh’s dragon now on display in the stairwell at Bookworm
