Night of Experimental Music “Reminiscence”
Fri 20 Oct 2017, 8 pm
Manzi Art Space
From Goethe Institut:
On Friday, the 20th of October, Manzi Art Space will present the concert “Reminiscence” featuring Kryshe, Sound Awakener and zither artist Nguyen ThuyDung. The concert highlights a sonic/musical dialogue where memories and personal experience are an important part of the performance. With ambient and experimental material, the sonic arrangement and experiments create a journey for the listeners; a journey of imagination, inner landscapes, dreams and life events.
Check out music by:
Kryshe (Christian Grothe)
Kryshe is an ambient project of German electronic artist/producer Christian Grothe.
Kryshe’s exquisitely subtle and detailed ambient work resonates with chilly grandeur. Across spacious vistas reminiscent of the collaborative work of Eno and Budd, delicate yet assured melodies unfurl before being subjected to delicate manipulation. This is enveloping, minimal music with a fragility that belies its emotional potency.
Sound Awakener (Nhung Nguyen)
The experimental musician and sound artist behind the alias Sound Awakener has been
composing and playing experimental music since 2011. She has been creating sonic waves in
Hanoi’s underground music scene for the last couple of years.
Nhung has teamed up with artists working across various media and from around the world to add audio elements to visual experiences. Since 2014, Nhung has been releasing music under the project Sound Awakener and eventually under her real name. She has worked with labels such as Time Released Sound [US], Unknown Tone Records [US] Soft [FR], Flaming Pines [AU],..While Sound Awakener is focused on abstract experimental sounds, releases under the name Nhung Nguyen are close to melodic, cinematic material.
Nguyễn Thùy Dung – Zither (Đàn Tranh) artist
Nguyễn Thuỳ Dung is considered one of the best traditional, contemporary and experimental
musicians on the Vietnamese long Zither. She graduated from Vietnam National Academy of
Music in 2012 and since then has worked in both traditional and new music fields and has
collaborated with well known composers such as Nguyen Thien Dao (France), Tran Kim Ngoc
(Vietnam), Joshua Kopecek (UK), Nguyen Thanh Thuy (Vietnam), Fyfe Dangerfield (UK) and
Vu Nhat Tan (Vietnam). Dung recently took part in an advanced course in free improvisation at Dom Dom, the Hub for Experimental Music and Art in Vietnam.
