Six readers, one poem, two languages, one hundred ways to xoa/xoá [caress/erase]
Xoa is a poetry reading series to shape fresh experiences of language, gathering on the third Thursdays of every month inside Art Vietnam’s gallery space.
“every language meets at the intersection of sky and ocean, we imagine we can see a borderline, but it is a line constantly erasing itself with the tides and light. the presence of poetry, at this intersection, erases the illusion of partitioning lines. poetry, at this intersection, is no more concerned with the original or the translation, is simply to invite a shared reading between languages, and to draw no more barriers between hearts.” – Nhã Thuyên
Young poet Dương Tường, 85 years of age, will appear before us with a single poem, read by himself and six other poets, to experience all the possibilities lying within just a few words. Poet readers who will caress/erase/spill themselves (with chalk): Nguyễn Quí Đức, Nguyễn Quân, Hải Yến, Nhã Thuyên & Kaitlin Rees.
XOA #1 will take place on November 17 at 7pm. Art Vietnam is located at 24 Ly Quoc Su in Hoan Kiem district. Entrance is free and participation will be encouraged. Open mic to follow.
