Giao vien strut their stuff at the Viet Arts Center.
Well I presume it’s the teachers. It’s about the same time that they laid themselves out last year for public appraisal.
Like the last time, it’s an uneven but interesting exhibition with the sculptural pieces more engaging than the paintings and photography.
I am completely besotted with the bright cerise metal sculptures of Le Thi Hien and everytime I see one I have to forcibly stop myself buying it. I always think of her small pieces as maquettes for large outdoor works that would fill a public space. Anyone with a sizeable garden or courtyard that needs a lift could do themselves a favor and investigate this artist’s studio.
Of the wall pieces I liked the fabric piece by Tran Hoang Son though viewers with conservative tastes would find themselves drawn into some of the figurative paintings.
