The Rise of Vietnam’s Underground Movies

Recently, underground movies have found their way to audience with works of young filmmakers such as Phuc Doan, Tran Ly Tri Tan, etc. Also, initial achievements of the two projects “Hanoi, I love you” and “Saigon, I love you”, as well as the establishment of YxineFF online film festival are believed to be a great support for independent filmmakers in Vietnam

The meeting of Cinema Roundtable this week themed The rise of Underground movies will be a good chance for independent filmmakers in Vietnam to sit together and share their dreams and experience of filmmaking. After the meeting, young filmmakers who still hesitate to follow their dreams will find a great motivation to pick up their pens or camcorders.

Hopefully, in the near future, underground movies will not only be popular to Vietnamese audience but also find their way to international film festivals and make Vietnam’s cinema known by the world.

There will also be a screening of outstanding short films by young filmmakers.
